Sport Psychology is the scientific study of how psychological factors influence performance and how sport and performance influence psychological well being.
What is Sport Psychology?

Why might someone work with a Performance Enhancement Specialist?
Sport Psychology is all about enhancing your performance. Althetes and Performers come to me for one of 3 reasons: 1) they have some obvious performance challenge (like too much anxiety or lack of confidence) 2) They need some extra support through a rough patch or transition and 3) The athlete simply wants to be better. Whatever your reason, I will help you understand where you are and where you want to go.
What is the process like?
Think of the overall process like a compass; you do the walking and make the decisions while I guide you along your journey as a performer, providing you with valuable information and support.

I want to work with who you are as a person and as a performer so the first session is mainly about me getting to know you. I'll ask a lot of questions to not only help me gather important information but to increase your own self-awareness.

If you know exactly what you want to work on we can jump right in and get started. If you are not quite sure what you want to work on, we will assess a lot of different areas and find a good starting point. Either way, we will create a flexible action plan to meet your needs.

Who can meet with a Performance Enhancement Specialist?
Sport Psychology is not only for athletes, coaches, and referees, but can benefit actors, musicians, parents, or students. Sport Psychology skills are transferable to everyday performance in life.
What doesn't a Performance Enhancement Specialist do?
While sport psychology is really versatile there are somethings that are not within a mental performance consultant's scope of practice that are important to know. I'm not a psychologist, so I can't treat clinical issues and I won't be psychoanalyzing you.

Are you going to tell anyone else what I tell you?
No, what you tell me is completely confidential unless you are a harm to yourself or another person, or abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult is discussed. Anything else that could be potentially be shared would only be done so with your expressed permission.
What is a Performance Enhancement Specialist?

There are many different titles of professionals working in the field of sport psychology because of differing preferences and state laws. Unfortunately there is no universal title to the work that we do. Some titles you may come across are: Mental Skills Coach/Trainer, Performance Enhancement Specialist, Performance Consultant, Sport Psychology Consultant, etc. Regardless of what they call themselves, it is their education and experience that matters.
